Flowers and Bullets
About Flowers and Bullets
Mission: We reclaim our cultural roots and amplify them through sustainability, art, and rebellion to heal and empower our neighborhood.
Neighborhood Vision: An equitable, healthy, empowered, and engaged Barrio Centro
Flowers & Bullets (F&B) is a grassroots non-profit advancing environmental justice. It was formed by three Indigenous young people who grew up in Barrio Centro, a neighborhood disproportionately impacted by industrial and military pollution, disinvestment, and over-policing. We operate as a collective and ascribe to a regional model of community-driven dry lands agriculture that helps feed, educate, employ, and empower. We bought a 10-acre abandoned school grounds and developed it Midtown Farm, an urban food production hub (for crops and livestock), educational space, and community center.
In addition to production and distribution of Native, culturally-relevant food and a neighborhood composting program, our environmental justice work includes installing rainwater systems and gardens; leading reentry programs for formerly incarcerated people; hosting a weekly market; and hosting workshops on gardening, tree-planting, sustainable resource use, entrepreneurship, and more.
