The Food Studies degree requires a variety of core classes and a unique combination of additional requirements. The foundation of the degree consists of general education courses and six core FOOD and ENGL courses. Additional course electives span from Nutritional Science and Anthropology to History and Journalism.

The Food Studies degree will teach you how to examine real-world issues of food on a practical/applied level through engagement with food related organizations, including NGOs, community organizations, and local food industries. These skills will carry over after graduation through several career options, and in everyday life.

The B.A. in Food Studies and the B.S. in Nutrition and Food Systems share core coursework, but differ in their overall requirements and areas of focus. The B.A. in Food Studies focuses on the social, historical, and cultural dimensions of food, whereas the B.S. in Nutrition and Food Systems focuses on the food system from production to consumption. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences also offers degrees in Dietetics and Nutritional Studies degrees focus more heavily on science foundation and core nutrition courses.
